The MLB playoffs have arrived, and now it is time for the ever-exciting Wild Card game. In the American League, the offensive power house New York Yankees host the rugged Oakland Athletics for a winner-takes-all game. The Yankees have been favorites all year with the likes of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton raking homers at a record-breaking pace.

However; The Athletics, have had to fight every game to make the playoffs. They have the 3rd cheapest payroll in the MLB, and have had so many injuries to their starting rotation that they’ve reverted to pitching by committee out of the bullpen more often than not.

The Yankees have had a firm hold on a playoff position for awhile and went 9-4 to finish the regular season and clinch home field advantage for the Wild Card game. Moreover, the A’s split the regular season series with the Yankees 3-3, (both teams took two of three at home).

Now Oakland will hope to ride the momentum that led them to their playoff spot and will try to overcome the Yankees’ homefield advantage.
